Armor of God Puppet Script
PHASE 11: PRAY IN THE SPIRIT
Melody: (enters looking around) Hello? Where’s everyone at?
Carlos: (enters) Melody, hi. Where’s Sergeant Cornbread and Granny Grace? Have you seen them?
Melody: I haven’t seen either of them and that is very strange for Sergeant Cornbread to not be ridiculously early.
Carlos: I know! If I’m on time, he tries to make me do push-ups for being late! Thankfully, Granny Grace is always there to save me.
Melody: What does he say? Early is on time and on time is late?
Carlos and Melody: And late is unacceptable!
Carlos: Too much! I really like him a lot. He always helps me learn my Bible verses and underneath all that tough exterior, he’s a big softy.
Melody: Yeah, he’s great. Speaking of Bible verses, do you want to go over ours while we wait?
Carlos: Sure, thing. John 14:26.
Granny Grace: (enters) I apologize for being so late but I was just pulling into church when Sergeant Cornbread called and I had to turn around.
Sergeant Cornbread: (enters) We blew a gasket! That old car needs some work. Thank you for coming to the rescue Granny Grace.
Granny Grace: It’s no problem at all, but since we’re late, we better get started on the Bible verse, John 14:26.
Sergeant Cornbread: I don’t like being late. I need to make myself do push-ups.
Granny Grace: That really isn’t necessary. Just try to remember to give others a little grace when it happens to them. Let’s focus on our Bible verse for now.
Sergeant Cornbread: Roger that! But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26.
Carlos: I memorized my Bible verse, But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26. I know the Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit that lives inside of us, but what is an advocate?
Melody: An advocate is someone that helps you and supports you.
Granny Grace: That’s right, Melody, and having The Holy Spirit as your advocate is amazing because the Holy Spirit knows the past, present and future. This is one reason it is so important to make special time to pray each day. It not only helps us to build a personal relationship with God but it allows God’s Holy Spirit to speak to us and show us things that we need to know. He will also guide us how to pray and who and what to pray for.
Sergeant Cornbread: The Holy Spirit has your back at all times. He will comfort you and defend you. The Holy Spirit isn’t bound by time and He is in your future fighting for you. There is nothing that the Holy Spirit doesn’t know. The Holy Spirit knows every thought, plan and secret of every single person in the world and lives inside of you if you’ve chosen to repent from your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Melody: Wow! The Holy Spirit is amazing. He knows everything. That’s why God’s word says, But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26.
Carlos: I like the part that says he reminds us of everything Jesus said. I know that’s true because when something is wrong and I get tempted to do it, I feel it. It starts in my stomach and I know in my mind that something isn’t right and I have the ability to choose the right thing and listen to God’s Holy Spirit inside of me.
Melody: That happens to me too, but how do we get closer to the Holy Spirit and hear from him more? Someone who knows everything would be very interesting to talk to.
Granny Grace: He does know everything and He loves you more than anyone. Remember, the Holy Spirit is God. We serve one God that exists in three people, God the Father, God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit. We get closer to God by learning his word, obeying his word, praising him for who he is and praying.
Sergeant Cornbread: The more time you spend doing anything, the better you become at it. The more time you spend with those you love, the closer you get to them and the more you get to know them. We need to make special time for God every day to pray to him and thank him and ask him to show us what he wants us to do, and to know and to see.
Granny Grace: That’s right. Making special time just for God and speaking to him and asking him to show you all he wants you to know and making quiet time to listen, will draw you closer to God and make it easier for you to recognize the Holy Spirit.
Sergeant Cornbread: Always remember that the Holy Spirit will never ask you to do something that is against God’s word. Not ever. The Holy Spirit is God and God never changes his mind or goes against his own word. God has never and will never make a mistake. People make mistakes, so it’s very important to line up everything with God’s word.
Melody: I guess it will take time to tell the difference between my own thoughts and the voice of God in my head.
Granny Grace: The more you pray in the Spirit by setting time aside to speak to God and really listen, the more familiar you will get with his voice, but no matter where we are with our walk with God, we always make sure it lines up with God’s word.
Carlos: It’s exciting to know I have such a powerful advocate and friend with me at all times.
Sergeant Cornbread: It’s amazing. That’s why the Bible tells us to pray in the Spirit about all things. Because God knows all things!
Melody: God truly is amazing. To think that God lives inside of all his people is incredible. Too bad more of God’s people don’t take the time to pray in the Spirit by putting special time aside for God. They are really missing out. The world could be totally different if every one of God’s people would pray in the Spirit and always obey God’s word.
Carlos: That’s so true, but we can always make sure we spend good, quality time with God and that will guide us and change the world around us.
Sergeant Cornbread: Good job, soldier! That’s exactly right.
Melody: Do you mind if I go pray? I want to go spend some special time with God and pray in the Spirit right now.
Granny Grace: That’s a wonderful idea, Melody. We don’t mind at all. I’ll walk you out. (exits)
Melody: Bye, everybody. (exits)
Sergeant Cornbread: On that note, I better go fix my old car so I’m not late again. Would you mind helping me out, Carlos? I can show you how to replace a gasket. (exits)
Carlos: That actually sounds fun. I’m right behind you. (exits)
