Sergeant Cornbread: (enters loudly) That’s it! Everyone is doing push-ups until they collapse!

Granny Grace: (enters quickly) Nobody is doing push-ups!

Sergeant Cornbread: Then we march until we collapse!

Carlos: (enters nervously) Are we really marching? I’m trying to break in my new sneakers and they are already hurting my feet

Melody: (enters) Marching sounds fun, but not if your shoes are hurting your feet and definitely not until we collapse.

Granny Grace: Nobody will be marching or doing push-ups!

Sergeant Cornbread: It gets the blood flowing!

Granny Grace: Everyone’s blood is flowing just fine, Sergeant Cornbread. Thank you.

Sergeant Cornbread: Roger that, Granny Grace!

Melody: At least Carlos doesn’t have to worry about marching in his new shoes.

Carlos: They’re really hurting. I wonder if I got the right size.

Melody: The right fit is important. I had a pair of shoes once that were too big for my feet and I was tripping and falling everywhere.

Granny Grace: The Bible tells us to fit the Gospel of Peace to our feet so we can be prepared for anything and not stumble.

Carlos: The Gospel of Peace is the Bible but how are we going to fit the Bible to our feet?

Melody: That’s silly. Shoes made out of the Bible!

Granny Peace: We wouldn’t make shoes out of the Bible, Melody, but we make sure the path we are on lines up with God’s word.

Sergeant Cornbread: Affirmative! When all of our choices and actions are fitted to God’s word then we will  be prepared for anything and it prevents us from falling into temptation.

Melody: Like when my friend invited me to her house when her parents weren't going to be home and my mom told me I couldn’t go unless one of her parents were home. My friend told me to tell my mom that her mom would be there and my mom would never know the difference.

Carlos: What did you do? She doesn’t sound like much of a friend if she wants you to lie.

Melody: She’s not a Christian and I’ve been witnessing to her and inviting her to church, but she hasn’t accepted Jesus yet. I really did want to go to her house though, and to be honest, I did think about telling my mom that her mom would be home. My mom trusts me and wouldn’t have questioned it, but I knew that would be wrong because the Bible tells us to not lie.

Granny Grace: Great job, Melody. Fitting your choices to God’s word prevented you from falling into temptation.

Sergeant Cornbread: Good job, soldier! You put on the right boots and they fit perfectly! Back in my army days, if we wore the wrong size boots, our feet would get beat up and sore with blisters.

Carlos: That’s how my feet feel trying to break in my new shoes! I might have got the wrong size. Walking through the world can get hard sometimes, there’s always a temptation or something trying to cause us to stumble. I’m glad we have the Bible to guide us and light the way.

Melody: Me too, Carlos. The more Bible verses I learn, the better prepared I feel in every situation. That’s one reason I love learning God’s word. It keeps me on the right path.

Carlos: Hey, that reminds me of our Bible verse. It’s so fitting! See what I did there? Fitting?

Granny Grace: That was a good one, indeed. Very fitting! Our Bible verse is Psalm 119:105.

Sergeant Cornbread: Psalm 119:105! Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.

Melody: God’s word shines the light on every situation so we know what to do and what choices to make.

Sergeant Cornbread: God’s word is like night vision! It will expose everything that is in the dark.

Carlos: We have to learn God’s word to stay prepared! That’s why I am going to go memorize my Bible verse and also take off these shoes! (exits)

Melody: I’ll help you with your verse but you’re on your own with those shoes! (exits)

Sergeant Cornbread: Dismissed! (exits)

Granny Grace: Oh, my. I don’t think you need to dismiss them after they have already left. (exits)
